Pet Friendly Destinations

Many conversion van owners travel with their pet for companionship. At their destination, they are often confronted with pet unfriendly rules. Parks, restaurants, campgrounds and many other venues frequently limit access to your best friend.

You can expect restrictions in public places, such as stores and public buildings, but recreational activities should allow inclusion of your pet. A converted van is a comfortable and inexpensive way to explore the natural beauty of this country. However, many of our national treasures are out of reach for the single traveler (or couple) and his/her dog.

Most U.S. National Parks only allow pets along roadways, in developed areas and in campgrounds. That means, you’ll find it difficult to participate in any activities (the reason for coming to the park), as pets are generally not permitted inside buildings, on most trails or in the backcountry. State Parks are less restrictive and your chances improve even more, when contemplating National and State Forests and Recreation Areas, as well as Bureau of Land Management lands.

Click on the following map, to find some of my favorite dog-friendly destinations, chosen for Conversion Van owners, who enjoy nature and a sporadic big city visit. They like to keep cost down, by choosing a free campsite nearby and use an annual pass to visit state and national parks. They bring their bike, like hiking or just sitting down and appreciating what nature has to offer, with Fido at their side.
